Since 1961, Drabek & Hill, Inc. has been the leader in providing Oklahomans with efficient and reliable air conditioning, at any price point.
When purchasing a new air conditioning system for your home, the best choice you can make is selecting an experienced and reputable contractor. Aside from this, it is important to keep in mind a few important factors:
- SEER – SEER stands for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio and is a measure of efficiency for air conditioners. In other words, a SEER rating is a measure of how efficiently an air conditioner can cool your home in the summer. The higher the SEER, the less energy it’ll take to keep your home comfortably cool. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, as of January 1, 2015 an installed air conditioner is required to perform at a minimum of 14 SEER. At Drabek & Hill, Inc., we offer air conditioning products ranging from 14 to 25 SEER.
- Variable Speed vs. Two-Stage vs. Single-Stage Compressors – Understanding how efficiently an air conditioner cools your home means understanding the internal compressor’s operation. Think of the compressor as the “heart” of the air conditioner. The purpose of the compressor is to circulate refrigerant through your system.
A Single-Stage Compressor simply turns on and off as needed to cool your home. If the thermostat is set to 72° and the home reaches 73°, the unit will turn on at full capacity. Once the home is cooled to 72° again, the compressor will shut off.
A Two-Stage Compressor means the compressor has two levels of operation: high and low. When the demand for cooling is great on hot summer days or when the activity in the home is high, the high stage will be initiated. When days are mild or when activity in the home is at a minimum, the compressor will run on its low stage. As a general rule, the low setting is adequate to meet household cooling demands 80% of the time. Because the low stage requires less energy use, a two-stage compressor is more energy efficient than a single-stage compressor. Also, a two-stage compressor will allow for longer cooling cycles, meaning more even temperatures in your home, quieter operation and enhanced humidity control.
A Variable Speed Compressor is not limited to high and low stages and will automatically make constant, minute adjustments to avoid temperature swings in your home. This compressor will customize its operation level to suit whatever cooling demand is needed. These minute adjustments result in a higher level of comfort, humidity control and efficiency. If you are looking for ultra-efficiency and comfort, this is the compressor for you.
- Brand – While the brand of equipment is only as good as the contractor installing it, know what brand you are purchasing and how reliable that brand has been in the past. Drabek & Hill, Inc. will always present you with quality and reliable brands of equipment. Brands of air conditioning equipment differ substantially in quality. If an HVAC company does not provide you with the brand of equipment they are installing, this is a red flag.
